Webster House is one of the oldest remaining public school buildings in Kansas City After the school opened in 1886, the city ordered the removal of the bell tower after a similar tower collapsed at a nearby school during a tornado. When the school closed in 1932, the bell tower had never been rebuilt. As part of the two-year restoration of the building, a new bell tower, built in Kentucky, now stands as the defining feature of the Webster School’s restoration. The lines of the wrought-iron fence surrounding the building, lead the eyes to this stunning addition symbolizing the commitment to the preservation of this Kansas City landmark.
