A sign in French in the lobby roughly translated as “The mission of St Peter the Apostle church is to provide a Catholic place of gathering that promotes freedom, inclusiveness and reflection in the heart of Montreal’s Gay Village. It promotes the active participation of members and encourages them to continue the mission of Christ, to bring about a world of justice and peace.”
The Saint-Pierre-Apôtre church, built in 1851 and first work of architect Victor Bourgeau, hosts the Chapel of Hope, the only chapel in the world dedicated to victims of AIDS.
