After finishing my first Glowforge product (the Go Away sign), I was ready to tackle something a little more challenging. So why not design a version of the iconic Western Auto sign that dominates the midtown Kansas City skyline?
I’ve seen several miniature desktop versions, but none captured the magic of the Western Auto sign lit up at night. I set out to create a wall-hung sign that would be lit with battery-operated LED lights.
Since the Glowforge can cut so many different materials, I was able to use acrylic for the letters and light them from behind. I cut the rest of the sign and frame out of wood.
Although the design of this project took me longer than I initially anticipated, it was incredibly fun. The experience has energized me to design and create even more projects.
I’d welcome your thoughts and feedback offering any suggestions for other projects I should create.
