Spring Floral Photography
A couple days ago, I posted the second image from my new photographic series exploring the details in a single floral bloom. Today’s image of a yellow calla lily provides another study in shape and contrast. The contours of the lily in this image beautifully captures the ever so subtle shadows cast by the subdued natural light from our recent overcast skies. With every image created, I’m more intrigued with creating this floral photography gallery of images documenting the return of Spring.
The Yellow Calla Lily is frequently associated with gratitude. I feel it’s a rather fitting association. I’ve been experiencing such an extraordinary feeling of gratitude from undertaking this project. I’m truly grateful this project has shown me the benefits of slowing down the pace of my daily life. I’m now taking time to “stop and smell the flowers” as I appreciate the beauty of so many different varieties. The details that make each variety unique are something that I’ve not really appreciated since I was a young child mesmerized by the different blooms growing in my Grandma’s flower garden. Each bloom seems to suck me into a trance-like state as I spend time capturing different angles and light. A sense of tranquility and peacefulness is re-energizing and relaxing my mind and body.
My ongoing floral photography . . .
. . . “project” is growing into something bigger and more rewarding than I could have imagined. It’s a great diversion that is helping me stay upbeat on gloomy days because the light is so incredible for my photography. Actually looking forward to grey skies sounds contrary to conventional wisdom. But the contrarian in me is using that energy to connect with my creative side.
Stay tuned for additional floral images as I continue my adventure in floral photography in the coming days.
