Spring Floral Photography
Yesterday, I posted the first image from my new photographic series exploring the details in a single floral bloom. I continue to be intrigued by how the natural light from the overcast skies highlights and casts shadows on the petals. The arrival of Spring and warmer temperatures has piqued my interest in taking advantage of the further exploration of blooms that are beginning to appear. I’ve become intrigued with creating a floral photography gallery of images to document these signs of Spring.
The recent gloomy grey skies have provided a great chance to explore the use of a natural soft diffused light. I’m amazed how satisfying it can be to focus on and explore one single bloom. Today’s image of the white ranunculus from the bouquet provided an incredible study in contrast. The way the light cast shadows around the edges and various layers of the petals, really spoke to me. I’m still not sure that I’ve effectively captured the beauty I saw. You may see further variations of this type of flower in the future!
While photographing the entire bouquet was “nice,” it was the Gerbera Daisy that continued to speak to me. So I pulled it out of the arrangement and decided to shoot only the single stem. Somehow, I became caught up in exploring the details in just this one flower. It amazes me now that I could spend so much time focusing on only one flower. But as I spent more time in this endeavor, I realized it would be interesting to explore in depth some of the other individual blooms in the bouquet.
My current floral photography . . .
. . . “project” was born from this exploration. As long as I’m able to remain fixated on these in-depth floral studies, I’ll no longer have time for gloomy depressing thoughts. The joy and beauty of exploring a single flower in depth have connected with my creative side. I’m looking forward to additional floral photography in the coming days.
