It’s amazing how many more stars one sees once you’re away from larger metropolitan areas. At the last minute, I decided to take a spontaneous road trip to the Flint Hills after work yesterday. This picture was taken about an hour after sunset at the Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve. Even at this earlier hour, there were already more stars visible than we typically see in the city in the middle of the night. Unfortunately, I was too tired to stay up two to three hours longer to get decent pictures of the Milky Way. Guess that means I’ll be making plans for another trip during the next new moon in July.
