What I’m Listening To —
Every now and then it’s nice to unwind by reflecting back on a time in life that our memories recall as “easier.” I know in reality life was still complicated at the time. It is now remembered as “easier” only because we have learned coping mechanisms to effectively deal with whatever complications existed at that time in our past.
Shutting myself in my bedroom and listening to an album was a way for me to set my mind free from whatever cares had been occupying my thoughts. What seemed like a hectic pace of life when I was in high school, pales in comparison to today. The speed with which change happens only seems to accelerate with each passing day. Therefore, it is nice to know that I can still rely on music to unwind and decompress. It’s just not the same, though, listening to a CD, iPod or digital stream. There is something to be said for experiencing the “hiss” and “static pop” produced via a needle coming in contact with vinyl. Even after all of these years, I still find a sense of comfort and calm while being transported back in time listening to Pink Floyd on my original vinyl.
